‘The Golden Desires’ centers around the slightly paranormal romance between Isabella and Trent - two characters that you can’t help but love. It begins when Trent decides to up and leave his job and most recent drama-filled relationship for a backpacking journey to find some inner peace. He accidentally finds himself in an almost garden-of-eden type parallel universe where he encounters the beautiful Isabella. Although throughout the story it remains to be seen how ‘accidental’ Trent’s journey actually was.

Isabella lives in a village that most of us would consider almost paradise compared to the hustle and bustle of modern day life. Nothing much out of the ordinary ever happens until Isabella starts having dreams about a mysterious stranger and not soon after, Trent enters her life.

I could describe these two in no other way but to say they were truly soulmates. Destined to be together no matter what. The author paints such a vivid picture of life in this idyllic community that one begins to think it may actually exist somewhere. Its warmth and its lush surroundings combined with the purity of its inhabitants make it a place that many in today’s world would envy.

This book is extremely well-written and the pace of the story-telling is excellent. It is perfect for anyone who is looking for a romance with a hint of paranormal mystery. Well done Ms. Pratley!

The concept behind this story was intriguing and very sexy. I loved Trent's sudden unrest and decision to just walk away from his life, literally. I think we can all relate, but what happens if you come upon a civilization from another time, and there you meet your soul mate? Fireworks and all out romance, followed by some interesting obstacles, but they are overcome, because well...it's love.

What I loved about this read was the fairytale like narration with a sci-fi/fantasy kick; it made me feel like I was part of the story. The connection behind Isabella and Trent is sweet and hot with just enough mystery and Isabella's unique gift is original, yet incredibly authentic and intriguing. What is the golden light all about? I am looking forward for the next in the series so I can find out.
This was a very sweet romance that brought with it the same “gosh, I wish I could find a place like that” feeling that I have always gotten watching Brigadoon. While it is a well-known story of soulmates finding each other across space and time, Ann M. Pratley brings new twists to the telling, making this a new and exciting story of her own.

Even through the dreamy quality of the telling, I found myself drawn to keep reading, to finding out what would happen next, almost as if reading a compelling action/adventure because the pacing was so excellent.

And… ahem… the love scenes are quite well written, too.

I enjoyed both of the main characters – the openness and innocence of Isabella and Trent’s initial cynicism and journey toward his own happiness.

While the book works as a standalone, I look forward to reading the sequel which has been quite well set up to answer the questions posed at the end of the book.

This was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good paranormal romance!
What an interesting story concept! In The Golden Desires we are introduced to two main characters Trent & Isabella. Trent lives in the modern world, in a large city (exactly what city isn't important) and he's fed up with his life. The busy-busy, rush-rush of his daily grind has finally done him in and he decides to kip off into the wilderness for some solitude. While journeying he sees, as if a mirage in the distance, a huge castle-like fortress atop a distant mountain. Driven by curiosity he endeavors to reach the huge edifice.

Meanwhile, in that far away fortress, lives a young woman Isabella. Her society is the polar opposite of Trent's, an egalitarian civilization where everyone works for the betterment of others, safe within the walls of their city. As Trent journeys ever nearer, both parties begin to have dreams of one another, drawn inexorably toward someone they've never met.

When Trent finally reaches the fortress, he finds only rubble. The issue Trent and Isabella are centuries apart! While they can see and interact with one another, none of the villagers can see Trent, nor can he see them or the thriving village within which they live. This magical quality was a nice twist, delving into the realm of fantasy romance.

This is the fourth book I've read by Ann Pratley, and as such the style of The Golden Desires felt very familiar to me. As some reviewers have pointed out, Ms Pratley's writing can include some rather long sentences, however this never bothered me in her other works and especially not in this tale. In this particular instance, the author's style was well suited to the tone of the world she has created. It provided an old-world flair, reminiscent of classic literature and befitting of her unique civilization.

I enjoyed the budding relationship between Trent and Isabella. I especially found Trent's awakening to a new way of living particularly endearing. My only quibble was that the ending of the story felt rather abrupt. I know there is a second book planned, and the ending was not a cliffhanger, but it still felt a tad lacking (to me). Did it leave me hungry for he next installment? Absolutely! As with her other books, Ann kept me enchanted throughout.
