This is a short story that introduces Honi, a young Mekui'te teenager, whose nightmares are haunted by a terrifying winged creature that threatens his sanity and may be a harbinger of death. Following the local shaman's advice, Honi's father sends the boy out into the wilderness on a perilous quest to discover his 'spirit animal' like the warriors of old, or perish in the attempt.
The mystical, Native American elements of the story fascinated me and I fully identified with Honi, eagerly reading on to the last page, and wishing I could continue beyond it. Great writing.
I was lucky enough to download a copy of this book when it was available free, but it is well worth the purchase price and I thoroughly recommend it. I shall definitely buy other books by this author.
I enjoyed reading this novella very much and have started reading the next book in the series. The second book is good too!
This is a very sweet story about finding a person's spirit animal. Sometimes we have to go through things to find who we really are on the inside. The writing is good. I look forward to the rest of the series.
A short read about Honi amekui'te teenager. Honi starts seeing animals. He tells his father about it. His father calls the sharman to tell him about it. They decide to send Honi on a Spirit Quest to find his animal. Honi goes on the Quest and learns alot about self.
What a cute upbeat short story. I read it after Spirit hunger and enjoyed reading about Honi's spirit quest when he was 13 years old. A few parts made me laugh. I loved the typical 13 year old boy mentality. A fun read. I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it.
Spirit Quest was a freebie offered by the author in a link at the end of her wonderful Spirit Hunger book, which is the official book 2 of the Spirit Walker series. This is the backstory for Honi, one of the series two leads. I read it after Spirit Hunger and can confirm that it's still fun that way - but I do recommend that anyone new to the series read this prequel book before book 1 as it will enhance your enjoyment of that book. (The same is true of Spirit Child, which provides the backstory of Adi, the other lead in the series.) Even though it's a prequel, this story is a load of fun in its own right and so I'm happy to recommend it
