Waiting for Aegina is the second book in The Gift Saga by Effie Kammenou. I can’t even begin to tell you how much i love this book ( and series ). I highly recommend reading the first book, before reading this one. It has a lot of back story regarding all the characters.
This is a story about Mindy, Sophia, Demi, Amy, and Donna. They have been friends for as long as they can remember. It follows their ups and down through many decades. They each have been through a lot… but one thing always remains, their friendship. Through life’s trials and tribulations… life is hard, but they are there for one another… always!! Good and bad, their friendship never waivers!!
This is such an amazing story! Every woman needs a good close knit of friends like this! They are different in their own way. Life gets busy, but they always make time for one another. It’s beautifully written , with well thought out characters. Oh and the recipes… deliciousness!!
Another outstanding job, Effie! I can’t wait to read what’s next!!

Beautifully written! Reminds the reader about the importance of family, friends with the interlinking of cultures and valued traditions!
Not quite as good as her other book. This seems like an afterthought. The Evanthia book had so many interesting facts about Greece...this seems just like a run of the mill novel.
I read the first book in this beautiful trilogy and I fell in love with it. I bought several copies and gave them to friends as presents. The second book is just as poignant. It captures the essence of true friendships.
Another must read. If you have not read the first book, it is time to read both. You will not be disappointed. Cannot wait to read the third book and many others by this wonderful new author.
I enjoyed continuing the story , which actually began in the previous book of the saga, Evanthia's Gift. So if you haven't read that book, it's a good idea to start there. These books are easy to read and have interesting turns that make the outcomes unpredictable and certainly not always what one would have guessed. There will be a third book to continue the story, which I look forward to with pleasant anticipation!
With wonderfully drawn characters and a great ear for dialog, Effie Kamnenou gently pulls the reader back in the world of this surprisingly compelling family story. Sophia's friends are the family she has chosen, as is demonstrated over and over again. The plot makes enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested; it's not always easy to tell how things will end up. The recipes are the icing on this very delicious Greek cake. I could not put it down and thought about the story even when I wasn't reading it. Brava, Effie! Looking forward to #3.
The Gift Saga books are a marvellous introduction to Greek immigrants inthe United States. The families in the two books are loyal to their homeland while working and raising their children in the new homeland. Many Greek expressions and recipes add to the flavour of these books, together with the so ial customs of Greek communities. I found them excellent reading, and look forward to the third book in the series.
Waiting for Aegina (The Gift Saga Book 2) by Effie Kammenou is the second book in her The Gift Saga series. Though I didn’t enjoy it as much, the first book in this saga needs to be read before this one as this one picks up where the last one left off, with Sophia. This one had much better pacing. About friendship and the challenges that come with it, this story includes the individual stories of 5 friends that will take you on an emotional roller coaster making you laugh and cry.
