This is one of my favorites although it only gets good, for me, after several chapters as Anthony gets more involves and like Derek's story there is a big "OMG, didn't see that coming", although not as near the end of the story. As with the prior book, this focus's on George's brother Boyd. The story also has overtones that you may find similiar in the final book of the series. Katie, the heroine, was raised in America after her mother was disowned by her English aristocratic family for marrying into trade. When Katie's mother dies in an accident, Katie decides to use the inheritance that her mother refused to accept and return to England to find her family. She travels on a Skylark ship owned by Boyd Anderson. That's starts the story and conflict. Its hard to tell the primary conflict, with its expected misunderstandings & clashes without telling all the subplots, and there are several, that bring Anthony, James, Judith and the rest of the group into the narrow story of Boyd and Katie. Its a good read.

When Passion Rules Johanna Lindsey 9781451628371 Books Reviews

I liked this book but somewhere in the beginning to middle"ish, I felt like I missed something. I honestly looked at the page numbers to see if I missed a page. I have never felt that way with Johanna's books before. I felt like there was way too much detail on the political aspects and not nearly enough on the romance. When they first (spoiler alert) have sex, I would've liked to see the build up to that. She goes to bed and "wakes" up and they are basically already in the midst of the foreplay. What? Why didn't she give the build up of having him come into the room and be overwhelmed with "passion" for what he saw and tell what he's feeling and thinking. Then after this scene Alana starts acting like it's no big deal that this happened and it's not proper for them to have anything else happen. Again, What?

I too wasn't blown away with her character but didn't really notice until 3/4 of the way through. Meaning I liked her up until this point but she never stopped complaining and acting like a brat. How was he not irritated, I was. I felt like at this point there should've been more change in her than there was.

Overall I liked this book, but was disappointed because I think it could've been soooo much better.
Written like a child talks. Choppy. I am stunned this received so many overall stars. I forced my way through it because I paid for it. Literally scrolled through the last 20 or so pages. Honestly just couldnt do it.
When I first read this book, I have to admit that I really enjoyed myself. I read the novel very fast, appreciated the plot for having at least some classic Lindsey twists to it, even if it was a little easy to see beforehand. The book really could have been so much better. I know I've read some rumors about Johanna Lindsey having a ghost writer, but I don't believe it. I just think that she's written so many books that she's getting softer. There is a threat of conflict, but it seems like Lindsey doesn't really want to get into it. There is a hint of desire, but no real heat. I read a couple of other reviews that said that it didn't make sense for the hero to automatically be attracted to the heroine, but I've read many a Lindsey novel, including her best ones that there is instant attraction. My biggest complaint is that the sex is almost unmentionable...in a bad way. Nothing really. I felt cheated. No build up, no passion, I felt like I was eating ramen noodles instead of the gourmet meals she used to serve. It was over before it started. I can also complain about the loose ties. The reader is led to believe that the queen was being drugged into losing her babies, but....? I would have given this book 4 stars just because as most people have mentioned before me, I am a HUGE Johanna Lindsey fan. I've read Lindseys for longer than half of my life. She has been my favorite author for so long I don't even question her....but the reason I gave this novel 3 stars is because I took a step back, thought about the story and then remembered some of my old favorites like "Surrender My Love", "Prisoner of My Desire", "Once a Princess", and of course the the first half of the Malory novels and I realized....her current books just aren't as good.
This is by far my least favorite Malory-Anderson Family book. I hated Katey. She was a consummate liar and then was upset through the entire book that she wasn't believed. I found myself skipping numerous chapters (at least 8) to just get to the end of the book. I missed some information but by then I no longer cared. Why Boyd pursued her I have no idea. I would have kicked her to the curb after the first meeting. Whatever you miss in this book will be explained in the next. It's not worth the time it took me to skim the book.
